Christian congregations in Gulu have been urged to desist from merely following the laws of the Bible and, instead, practice what they read and preach.

Preaching to the congregation at Christ Church Gulu, the Bishop of Hereford in Western England, Bishop Richard Jackson, emphasized that it is not about following the covenant laws that make us better Christians, but rather practicing what the law says and committing ourselves to what it demands of us.

Quoting from the Bible, specifically from Matthew 13:15 and Philippians 3:7, he emphasized the need for Christians to recognize the power to change and remain devoted to the Word of God.

“We need to recognize that we have no power to change by ourselves, but rather remain devoted to following the Word of God. We need God and the power of the Holy Spirit to change and become more like Jesus,” says Bishop Richard.

He further encourages Christians to have spiritual discipline, especially during this period of Lent. As they prepare to embark on the devotional journey of the cross, Christians should learn to live in harmony, peace, unity, and stand in oneness.

“I encourage you to have spiritual discipline, especially during this period of Lent. As we prepare ourselves for the way of the cross, we should learn to live in peace, unity, carry each other’s cross, and remain in oneness in Christ,” Bishop Richard stressed.

He also urged Christians to remain focused, spend time meditating on the Word and Gospels, worship, and pray. For them to remain accomplished in God, they need to be around people who inspire them, as becoming wholly like Christ is a slow process.
