The Commissioner for Crop Certification in the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Paul Mwambu, has traveled to Rome, Italy, to attend a food and agricultural conference on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

Dr. Mwambu is leading the Ugandan delegation to the 19th session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-19), taking place in Rome, Italy, at the invitation of the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The conference will focus on several thematic areas, including drawing attention to food security and plant health in East Africa and beyond, reviewing the latest scientific knowledge, setting international standards for phytosanitary measures, and disseminating knowledge among East African countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, the DRC, Sudan, and Somalia, among others.

Before joining the Ministry of Agriculture as a commissioner, Dr. Paul Mwambu held various senior positions at the UNDP and FAO, where he also served as a board member at the African Union on agricultural-related issues.

Steven Masiga, the spokesperson for Inzuymasaaba (Bamasaaba Cultural Institution), told Ankole Times by telephone that while in Rome, the Prime Minister of Inzuymasaaba will meet with various Bamasaaba clusters in Italy, France, and Germany on the sidelines of the conference.

He will encourage them to contribute to the development of Uganda and Masaabaland.
