Hon. Balmoi continues donating as other politicians caution against multiple unfulfilled promises. Politicians have been cautioned against making multiple pledges they might fail to fulfill, as such actions lower the trust and belief of the people they represent.

This call was made during the handover ceremony of iron sheets donated by the Gulu District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Laker Sharon Balmoi, to the Olel-Pukony Pentecostal Church (PAG) in Gulu District.

Rev. Ben Ochan, the Pentecostal Assembly of God (PAG) pastor, who delivered the sermon during this significant event and received the iron sheets on behalf of the Christian congregation of Olel-Pukony PAG, cautioned politicians who make promises but never fulfill them.

He urged them to always be cautious when making pledges and to ensure that they only pledge what they can afford and fulfill, as this builds trust and strengthens the confidence of their constituents.

“I tell you, it’s good to make pledges, but if you over-pledge, it might be hard to fulfill. You might be caught up by time before fulfilling the pledge or be limited by the resources necessary to meet your commitments. We have seen many politicians who make promises but find fulfilling them to be a challenge.

This makes them fear the community they have promised, and I would like to request them not to pledge in so many places, as failing to fulfill these promises may lower the trust and belief your voters or followers have in you,” Ochan said.

Quoting from the Bible, specifically Proverbs 11:15, Ochan thanked the woman MP of Gulu for fulfilling her pledge despite the hardships she endured when her husband was in the hospital until his death. She stood strong and remained focused on her vision of supporting the people and community of Gulu District. Ochan further explained that this Bible verse talks about the power of giving and the abundant blessings that flow to the giving hand.

He encouraged politicians to remember their subordinates, to go to the ground, understand their people’s challenges, and respond to their needs—not just stay in Kampala to legislate in Parliament.

Hon. Laker Sharon Balmoi donated 80 pieces of iron sheets to Olel-Pukony PAG Church in fulfillment of a promise she made when she saw how Christians from Olel-Pukony and the nearby community were struggling in a small, worn-out place they used for prayers. She pledged to support them with iron sheets when they began the project of constructing a new church building.

In her remarks, Balmoi pledged to continue supporting the right causes, emphasizing that her intention for joining politics was purely to serve the people, which is why the people of Gulu are benefiting from her work. Laker joined the 11th Parliament as the Woman Member of Parliament for Gulu District and has since been involved in numerous social and economic development projects for the people of Gulu.

These include providing scholastic materials for school-going children and students, donating health equipment (delivery beds and admission beds) to all Health Centers II, III, and IV in Gulu District, supporting farmers by providing a tractor to aid large-scale farming, and drilling boreholes in all the parishes of Gulu District, among other services.

She says all of this is done out of the love she has for the people of Gulu and the love they have for her.
