Ugandan Woman Detained at Indian Airport for Smuggling Cocaine in Body Cavities

A 41-year-old Ugandan national was detained on Saturday at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, for attempting to enter the country with drugs concealed as capsules in her body cavity.

She has been placed under medical observation to ensure that all the drug capsules are excreted from her body.

Earlier, she had been denied entry into India via Kolkata International Airport last year due to a forged visa letter.

“Based on her previous record, intelligence from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had alerted officials, who reached the airport early in the morning.

The woman had arrived on a flight from Dubai. Initially, immigration officers questioned her because of her prior visa violations, but later DRI officers took her into custody.

She confessed to attempting to smuggle cocaine in the form of capsules. However, the contents of the capsules will only be confirmed after lab tests,” sources said.

The case is now under investigation by the DRI. Once all the suspected drug capsules are recovered, legal action will be initiated, and the Ugandan national will be presented before a magistrate for custody, the source added
