Apac District, Uganda – The territorial police command of Apac District is investigating a case of alleged murder by a mob that occurred on April 7, 2025, in Awilabongo village, Amun parish, Apac District.
A report concerning the incident was filed by Bongonyinge Moses, aged 46, the Chairman LC2 of Amun parish, Apoi Sub-County.
According to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Police Spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, the identified suspects are:
- Akaki Denis, aged 17 years, a resident of Awilabongo village, Amun parish, Apoi Sub-County, Apac District.
- Okello Walter, aged 36 years, a resident of Awilabongo, Amun parish, Apoi Sub-County, Apac District.
- Opeto Ambrose, aged 26 years, a resident of Awilabongo cell, Amun parish, Apoi Sub-County, Apac District.
The preliminary investigation indicates that on April 7, 2025, at approximately 6:00 AM in Awilabongo village, Amun parish, Apoi Sub-County, Apac District, the deceased, Okello Patrick, was apprehended by members of the community on suspicion of stealing a cow. He was subsequently beaten to death.
The scene of the crime was visited by the homicide team and the Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) from Apac Central Police Station (CPS).
A postmortem examination has been conducted, and the deceased’s body has been handed over to relatives for burial.
Three suspects, as listed above, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
SP Okema strongly condemned the act of individuals taking the law into their own hands, stating that it contravenes Article 22 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. He assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure that justice prevails in this case.
