Kisoro Mother Arrested for Allegedly Drowning Toddler in Water Tank

Police in Kisoro District have apprehended a 30-year-old woman suspected of killing her young daughter. The suspect has been identified as Jackline Ruhangariho, a resident of Murindi Village, Muhindura Parish, in Kanaba Sub-county.

It is alleged that Ruhangariho threw her 2-year and 8-month-old daughter into a rainwater harvesting tank under unclear circumstances.




Steven Bakunzi, the Local Council I Chairperson of the area, reported that he received a distressing message from residents who discovered the child’s body inside the water tank.




Upon receiving this information, Mr. Bakunzi notified officers at the Kanaba Police Post. Police responded to the scene and subsequently requested assistance from the Kisoro Central Police Station.




Police officers retrieved the child’s body from the tank and conducted a postmortem examination at the scene. The remains were later handed over to the child’s relatives for burial.

Jackline Ruhangariho is currently in custody at the Kisoro Police Station, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

At the time of this report, the Police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the case.
