Police in Buhweju District are investigating the death of a 21-year-old security guard, Victor Turyamuhaki, who was discovered with a gunshot wound on the morning of April 27, 2025.
Turyamuhaki was employed by AGRI Security Ltd and stationed at the Butare branch of Muhame Financial Services in Kashenyi-Kajani Town Council.
According to Pellan Orishaba, a local resident, Turyamuhaki returned to his duty post around 10:00 PM on April 26, carrying an SMG rifle. Orishaba stated that he then went to sleep while still in uniform.
The following morning, at approximately 5:55 AM, a gunshot was heard shortly after he reportedly began cleaning his firearm. He was subsequently found dead on his bed.
Orishaba immediately informed Nicholas Ariinda, a 19-year-old colleague of the deceased, who then reported the incident to the police.
Marcial Tumusiime, the police spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi region, confirmed the incident. He stated that an SMG rifle and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
Turyamuhaki’s body has been taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination as the police continue their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. At this time, a clear motive has not been established.
