Police in Obongi District have arrested the commander of the UPDF detach in Ewafa for allegedly assaulting a National Resistance Movement (NRM) registration officer and inciting non-registered individuals to vote.

According to police reports, Lt. Olega Sebbi Iddi was arrested on Tuesday after he assaulted Mr. Azubu Felix, the NRM sub-county registrar for Ewafa. The incident occurred at Munduchaku Village, located at the Ewafa Sub-county headquarters near the UPDF barracks.

Eyewitnesses say the altercation began when Mr. Felix read out voter guidelines that clearly stated only registered voters were eligible to participate. Lt. Sebbi, whose national ID indicates he is registered to vote in Moroto District, Karamoja, reportedly attempted to vote by force and encouraged other unregistered individuals to do the same.

When Mr. Felix insisted on following the official guidelines, Lt. Sebbi allegedly slapped him on the right side of the head, causing confusion and halting the voting process.

The District Police Commander (DPC) of Obongi, Superintendent of Police (SP) Graciano Nkurunziza, responded swiftly by arresting Lt. Sebbi. He is currently being held at Obongi Central Police Station (CPS).

When contacted for comment, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hasaka, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing.
