KISORO, Uganda – Police in Kisoro District have launched an investigation following the discovery of a decomposing foetus, estimated to be about seven months old, in the Mayor’s Garden in Kisoro Municipality.
The disturbing find was made yesterday, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, by children scavenging for leftover food in the garden, which had recently hosted a week-long trade show. The children immediately alerted nearby residents, who then notified the police.
According to the Kisoro District Police Commander, SP Ben Niwamanya Kashumbusha, the foetus, believed to be female, was recovered from the scene. It has since been transported to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death and gather further evidence.
SP Niwamanya condemned the act and confirmed that a full investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for abandoning the foetus.
