Kanungu, Uganda – Police in Kanungu District have launched an investigation into the brutal mob killing of 35-year-old Emmy Busingye, a resident of Rukarara village in Kihembe Parish, Kihembe Sub-County. The grim incident occurred on Saturday, June 7, 2025, around 3:00 PM.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Busingye was reportedly known for theft, with several previous reports lodged against him at Kihihi Police Station.
On the day of the incident, boda boda riders spotted Busingye in possession of a motorcycle lacking number plates, which they suspected to be stolen.
Eyewitnesses suggest that the group then apprehended Busingye and proceeded to lynch him on the spot. Police were later alerted and arrived at the scene, which was thoroughly documented. Busingye’s body has since been transported to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Authorities have commenced inquiries aimed at identifying and apprehending all individuals involved in this act of mob justice.
ASP Maate condemned the extrajudicial killing, stressing the importance of due process in the pursuit of justice.
