Mawokota North MP, Hillary Kiyaga, popularly known as Dr. Hilderman, has publicly declared that he will support whoever is awarded the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for his constituency in the forthcoming elections.

The “Mazongoto” hitmaker, who has served as MP for Mawokota North under the NUP banner for the past five years, revealed that while he has not always been aligned with NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine on every issue—particularly on matters related to corruption and governance ideology—he remains committed to respecting the party’s internal processes.

“If the party grants me the ticket again, I will gladly serve. If not, I will fully back whoever is chosen to represent us,” Hilderman stated.

The announcement comes amid growing speculation about his future political direction, especially given his known friendship with Mathias Mpuuga, the newly elected Democratic Front (DF) party president. Some NUP supporters have openly criticized this relationship, accusing Hilderman of being ideologically closer to Mpuuga’s new political stance.

Political analysts suggest that should relations between Hilderman and the NUP leadership deteriorate further, he may well consider crossing over to DF, especially given the ongoing debate about internal party cohesion and loyalty within NUP ranks.

For now, however, Hilderman has reiterated his desire to respect the party structures and decisions.

“I represented Mawokota North under NUP’s ticket for five years. I understand what the party means to our people. I also understand what loyalty and unity mean, especially at such a critical time when Ugandans are looking for real alternatives to poor governance,” he said.

As Uganda’s 2026 general elections draw nearer, all eyes will be on whether Dr. Hilderman remains firmly in the NUP camp or if shifting political winds might see him join forces with Mpuuga’s DF—a move that could further reshape Uganda’s rapidly evolving opposition landscape.
