Authorities in Rukungiri District are investigating the suspected murder of Evalyne Mbabazi, whose body was discovered under mysterious circumstances on the morning of June 23, 2025, in Kizinga A, Kyamakanda Ward.
Mbabazi, aged 50, had been reported missing the previous evening around 8:00 PM. Her body was found the next morning by Justus Nkohe, a resident who was heading to his garden when he came across the lifeless body lying near White Close, a road locally known as White Road.
Isaac Bitwire, the Gomborora Internal Security Officer (GISO) for Buyanja Sub-county, confirmed that early findings point to a possible case of homicide. Investigators suspect the crime could be financially motivated, as the victim had reportedly received money from the sale of land owned by her daughter, who resides abroad.
Further raising concern, authorities are also exploring the possibility that the crime involved sexual violence, though this has not yet been confirmed.
The body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have detained one suspect at Buyanja Police Station to aid in the ongoing investigation. Officials urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mbabazi’s death.
