KAMPALA, Uganda –  A mobile money outlet in Kitintale, near Access Building, became the scene of a fatal confrontation on Thursday when armed robbers targeted the premises, leading to the death of one suspect and the arrest of another.

Armed robbers stormed the outlet, threatening agents Ssebanenya Ibrahim and Kyeyune Rashid while demanding cash. As the assailants began stuffing money into bags, the quick-thinking agents managed to escape and raise an alarm, alerting the vigilant community.

Residents swiftly contacted Kitintale Police, who responded promptly. Officers pursued the suspects as they fled towards Bugolobi. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, one of the suspects, identified as Matovu Farouk, was apprehended with crucial assistance from the community. He is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station.

The second suspect attempted to evade capture, firing shots into the air in an attempt to deter pursuing police officers and boda boda riders. However, a Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force (UPDF) soldier, guarding a nearby residence in Bugolobi, engaged the fleeing suspect and shot him dead.

Following the incident, police secured the scene and recovered a rifle with two short magazines from the deceased robber. The area was cordoned off as police processed the scene and launched a full investigation.

“We are working to determine the exact amount of money stolen and to establish whether there are any other accomplices involved,” Onyango stated. He commended the community for their vigilance and cooperation, urging the public to continue reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement.
