SHEEMA, UGANDA – Police in Sheema District have launched a comprehensive investigation into the brutal killing and robbery of a prominent local businessman, Betware Edison, by unknown assailants in the early hours of Monday morning. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, the deceased has been identified as 63-year-old Betware Edison, a resident of Rutoma Cell, Rutooma Ward in Kabwohe Division, Sheema Municipality.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that Betware was attacked around 6:00 a.m. shortly after leaving his home as he set out for work in Kabwohe Town. As he stepped out of his gate, assailants struck him on the head and fled with his bag and mobile phone.

Despite his injuries, Betware managed to proceed to Neebs Bar where he later collapsed. He was rushed to Bushenyi Medical Centre (BMC) for emergency care. Due to the severity of his condition, Betware was referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.

Upon receiving the report, police swiftly responded to the scene and deployed a canine unit, which led to the arrest of one male suspect. This individual is currently in custody as investigations continue.

“At the scene, we recovered a piece of wood with suspected blood stains,” said Appolo Tayebwa. “We believe this evidence will help identify the killers.”

Betware’s body has undergone a post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death. Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and to discreetly provide any information that could assist in apprehending the remaining assailants.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the full motive behind the attack and to identify and apprehend all perpetrators.
