Ntawo Police OC Shot Dead by Unknown Assailants in Mukono

NTAMBA, Uganda  The Officer in Charge of Ntawo Police Station, ASP Emma Bagenda, was shot dead on Sunday night by unknown assailants while attempting to respond to reports of suspected robbers in the area, police sources and local officials confirmed.

According to John Ssebuya, the area councilor, Bagenda had been alerted by unidentified people to respond to robbers operating in the locality. Around 11:00 pm, two assailants raided the area and confronted Bagenda and a colleague at the police post.

“The OC, who was with another police officer, was targeted and killed, and his colleague was shot and left in critical condition,” Ssebuya said.

Eyewitness Annet Mutesi recounted, “The OC was shot four times. He tried to escape after being shot once, but they chased him and shot him again about 150 metres from the police post.”

The attack also resulted in the theft of a police-issued firearm. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities have launched a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the assailants.

Police have appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to the capture of the perpetrators. Authorities described the incident as a tragic loss for the force and urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
