LIRA DISTRICT — In a campaign rally held in Agali and Barr Sub-county on Monday, prominent National Resistance Movement (NRM) cadre and Ober clan head Geoffrey Etwop made a fervent appeal to the people of Lango to re-elect President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and support NRM parliamentary candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

Etwop emphasized that peace, stability, and tangible development under Museveni’s leadership should guide voters’ choices. He urged the electorate to critically assess opposition parties’ platforms, arguing that the NRM’s agenda is both clear and proven.

“In the coming general election, please elect Members of Parliament who demand what belongs to you—who are in government, but not far from government,” Etwop told the gathered crowd. “You need an MP who follows up on government projects sent to help you.”

Highlighting the practical benefits of voting for the ruling party, Etwop endorsed NRM candidates Sam Engola for Erute South MP and Linda Agnes Auma for woman Mp Lira district, He praised Engola as a respected national figure and pledged collaboration on bridge rehabilitation projects if Engola is elected.

Etwop specifically cautioned against supporting National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine. He accused Kyagulanyi of lacking a clear agenda and suggested he should focus on music rather than politics.

“People should not be swayed away by him from NRM because he lacks clear agenda,” Etwop stated. He added that President Museveni, whom he described as stable and mature, possesses a clear development vision for Uganda.

Etwop’s message was reinforced by NRM parliamentary aspirant Sam Engola, who stressed the importance of having representation within the ruling party. Engola noted that with the NRM holding a strong majority in Parliament, opposition legislators have limited influence on resource allocation and project implementation.

“It makes it crucial for Erute South to be represented from within the ruling party if development is to reach the constituency,” Engola said.

The rally, attended by local residents and party supporters, is part of intensified campaign efforts in the Lango sub-region—a key political battleground. Etwop’s remarks reflect a broader NRM strategy to consolidate support in areas traditionally aligned with the party.

As the election approaches, voters in Lango are expected to weigh issues of development, effective representation, and political alignment when casting their ballots.
