KOLE.Uganda – Police in Kole District are hunting for a suspect who allegedly killed a 35-year-old man with a brick following a heated argument during a card game at a local bar.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 10:00 pm at Olila Tonny’s Bar in Atek B Village, Ayer Sub-County, and has left residents in shock.
According to a statement released by North Kyoga Region Police Public Relations Officer SP PJ Okema, the deceased has been identified as Oboga Felix, a peasant farmer and resident of Atek B Village. The suspect, identified as Omodi Denis, is currently on the run.
Preliminary police reports indicate that the two men were engaged in a card game involving money when a misunderstanding erupted.
“The misunderstanding escalated into a physical fight during which the suspect allegedly picked a brick and struck the deceased on the right side of the head,” read the police statement.
Oboga fell down at the scene but was initially able to return home with assistance from those present. However, upon arrival at his residence, he collapsed and died shortly thereafter.
The matter was reported to police on Wednesday at 1:16 am by Ogwal Tom, a 77-year-old resident of the same village.
A team of homicide detectives led by the District Scene of Crime Officer (D/SOCO) visited the scene and recovered the brick allegedly used in the assault. The murder weapon has been exhibited as investigations continue.
The deceased’s body has been transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have recorded statements from key witnesses, which have been attached to the case file.
“Our preliminary findings indicate that the deceased sustained a head injury on the right side caused by a brick. It was also established that the suspect and others were engaged in a card game involving money at the time of the incident,” said SP Okema.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspect are ongoing.
Residents of Atek B Village have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with police by providing any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
