KANUNGU, Uganda — Police in Kanungu District have launched investigations into the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy following a late-night altercation at Omukashansha Trading Centre in Kambuga Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Darius Tukamushaba, a resident of Kakoni Cell, Nyarugunda Parish in Kanungu District.

According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, the incident occurred on Thursday at around 11:30 p.m.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the suspect, identified only as Mugisha, was drinking with friends at Kasingire’s bar when the deceased allegedly approached him and called him outside.

An eyewitness, Tayebwa Yeremia, is reported to have followed the two outside before the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Darius in the stomach before fleeing the scene.

Yeremia immediately alerted people inside the bar, including Niwasiima Pakarasio, who then informed local leaders and the victim’s relatives.

The injured teenager was rushed to Kambuga Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers later visited and documented the scene of crime, recorded witness statements, and carried out a postmortem examination at the hospital.

Maate said efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing and urged members of the public to cooperate with investigators as inquiries into the motive behind the killing continue.
