Biara Wepukhulu Steps In for Bulambuli Landslide Orphans, Pledges Broader Support Beyond School Fees

Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting vulnerable children after visiting Yoweri Museveni Primary School in Namatala, Mbale District, where he engaged with ten pupils under the Biara Foundation Scholarship Program.

The learners, all orphaned by the devastating Bulambuli landslides, have been living under difficult circumstances since losing their parents, with education serving as their only pathway toward stability and hope for the future.

The visit provided an opportunity for Hon. Wepukhulu to directly interact with the children and receive updates from teachers and school administrators on their academic progress, discipline, and general welfare within the school environment.
School officials expressed gratitude for the scholarship initiative, noting that it has ensured the continued education of children who would otherwise have been forced out of school due to financial hardship and emotional trauma.

Despite this progress, the administration highlighted ongoing challenges affecting the pupils, including lack of uniforms, limited learning materials, and irregular access to meals, which continue to impact their performance and day-to-day school experience.

Hon. Wepukhulu acknowledged the concerns raised and explained that while the Biara Foundation had initially concentrated on paying tuition fees, there is now a clear intention to expand support to address the broader needs of the beneficiaries.
He emphasized that education is not only about keeping children in school but also about ensuring they learn in dignity, comfort, and stability, especially for those who have already suffered the loss of their parents through natural disaster.

The visit concluded with messages of appreciation from both pupils and teachers, who described the intervention as life-changing, restoring confidence and hope to children determined to overcome their painful past and build a brighter future.
