Mbale City, Uganda – The spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Hon. Steven Masiga, has called on Ugandan universities to encourage students to take advantage of internship opportunities available at the cultural institution offices in Mbale City.
Masiga said the institution, as a public cultural body, has a responsibility to contribute to practical training for students pursuing courses related to protocol, public administration, tourism, security, and other areas of public service.
He noted that many university students graduate with strong theoretical knowledge but lack practical exposure, which internships at the institution can help bridge.
He explained that students of public administration, for example, can gain hands-on experience in protocol management, especially as the institution regularly receives high-profile guests and cultural delegations.
Masiga added that the upcoming Imbalu cultural ceremonies are expected to attract prominent visitors, including national leaders and international guests, creating a valuable learning environment for interns.
He further said students pursuing tourism-related courses can benefit significantly by participating in the organisation of cultural events, where they may assist in protocol duties and guest coordination for visiting delegations from across Africa, including West Africa and Southern Africa.
According to Masiga, the institution continues to position itself as a practical training ground where students can apply classroom knowledge in real-life cultural and administrative settings.
He emphasized that such exposure will equip young professionals with essential skills in communication, protocol handling, event management, and public relations, which are critical in today’s job market.
The Bugisu Cultural Institution said it remains open to collaboration with universities to ensure students benefit from structured internship placements that enhance their career readiness.
