Bushenyi Leadership Crisis Deepens as Court Extends Injunction Against District Executive

BUSHENYI – The High Court in Bushenyi has extended an interim injunction halting the operations of the district executive for another two weeks as a legal dispute over the appointment of the District Service Commission continues.

The decision was issued by the Bushenyi High Court Deputy Registrar, His Worship Andrew Kibombo, following a court session held at the court premises.

The extension follows a miscellaneous application filed by five district councillors, who earlier secured an interim injunction stopping the activities of the district executive.

The court directive requires the district leadership to suspend all executive business until the matter is determined by the High Court.

The dispute was referred back to the Deputy Registrar by the Resident Judge, Justice Amos Kwizera, after hearing submissions from both the applicants and respondents through their respective affidavits.

The councillors accuse the Bushenyi District Chairperson, Prosper Twebaze, the District Speaker, Silagi Banyanga alias Fish, and the Bushenyi District Local Government of violating legal procedures during the appointment of members of the District Service Commission.

They argue that the process was not conducted in accordance with the law and have asked court to intervene.

The injunction means that the district executive cannot proceed with its normal functions until court provides further guidance on the matter.

The High Court is expected to continue hearing arguments from both sides before making a final determination on the dispute.
