BUSHENYI, Uganda — A 41-year-old teacher has died by suicide while in police custody at Bumbaire Police Station in Bumbaire Sub-county, Bushenyi District.
The deceased has been identified as Enock Musinguzi, a teacher at Nsimbi Primary School.
According to police, Musinguzi died while being held at the police station under circumstances that are now under investigation.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Commander, Godfrey Achiria, confirmed the incident, saying police have opened investigations to establish the events that led to the teacher’s death while in custody.
“Investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the death,” Achiria said.
Police have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances under which Musinguzi was being held or the events leading up to his death.
Authorities say more information will be provided as investigations progress.
The incident has raised concerns as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
