The 36-year-old Ugandan coach joins the newly promoted side with considerable experience in Ugandan football. He previously guided Kigezi HomeBoyz FC to a top-four finish in the FUFA Big League and subsequently to promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

Sempiji replaces former Uganda international Patrick Ochan, whose contract expired following the conclusion of the Western Regional League season. Ochan led SC Volcanoes through an unbeaten league campaign, winning the regional championship and securing the club’s historic promotion to the FUFA Big League. He is currently pursuing his CAF-B coaching qualification.

Born on 22 February 1990, Sempiji holds a CAF-B Diploma, obtained in 2023. He has built a strong reputation for developing competitive teams and successfully managing promotion campaigns.

He previously guided Mbarara City FC to promotion to the Uganda Premier League during the 2022/23 season and has also worked with Onduparaka FC, Lugazi FC, Arua Hill SC and Kampala University in various coaching capacities.

He highlighted that his track record speaks for itself, particularly his work at Kigezi HomeBoyz and Mbarara City, and said they believe his experience and ambition make him the right coach to lead SC Volcanoes into their first FUFA Big League season.

Dr. Mbonye said that Sempiji will have the club’s full support as they work towards their ultimate objective of promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

Club Patron Mr. Robert Mukiza also welcomed the appointment, describing it as a statement of the club’s ambition and expressing confidence in Sempiji’s ability to take SC Volcanoes forward.

The appointment comes as SC Volcanoes prepare for their maiden FUFA Big League campaign following an outstanding 2025/26 season.

Attention will now turn to player recruitment, squad development and pre-season preparations as the club builds a competitive team for the challenges of Uganda’s second-tier competition.

For SC Volcanoes, the objective is clear: to establish themselves in the FUFA Big League and continue building towards promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
