Uganda’s President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, announced significant progress in the fight against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists. Uganda’s fighter-bombers carried out successful airstrikes in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) on October 14. These airstrikes targeted four ADF locations located at different distances from the Uganda-DR Congo border.
President Museveni revealed that the fighter-bombers hit the ADF terrorists at four different points along the Bundibugyo-Semiliki side, ranging from 69 to 130 kilometers from the border. This operation resulted in the deaths of many terrorists.
As a result of these airstrikes, the terrorists are fleeing DR Congo and attempting to enter Uganda to carry out random terrorist acts. Museveni mentioned a recent attack on a truck near the DR Congo border, suggesting it might have been carried out by these fleeing ADF members.
Museveni urged the public to stay vigilant and report any unfamiliar or suspicious individuals to the authorities. This warning highlighted the possibility of remaining ADF members seeking refuge within local communities, potentially posing a threat to public safety.
Uganda and the DR Congo initiated a joint operation called Operation Shujaa in November 2021 to eliminate the ADF presence in eastern DR Congo, following increased rebel attacks in both countries in 2021. This recent operation marks the third attack linked to ADF rebels in 2023.
President Museveni reiterated the Ugandan government’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring national security against potential threats from extremist groups.
