Eyewitnesses say military personnel have been seen moving alongside police officers while conducting patrols in parts of central Kampala. The deployment has attracted attention from residents and other people going about their daily activities in the city.

According to reports, the operation follows intelligence concerns that some individuals could be planning activities capable of disrupting security. However, the alleged plans have not been independently confirmed, and authorities have not publicly provided detailed information about the reported intelligence.

The development comes at a time when Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is facing public criticism and growing debate over his leadership and influence within the military establishment.

The reported deployment also follows remarks attributed to retired UPDF General Peter Elwelu, who reportedly cautioned Muhoozi against how he handles certain individuals. Elwelu is said to have reminded the CDF that he was neither the first nor the last person to hold the military position.

In the reported remarks, Elwelu further warned that Muhoozi could fail to remain in the position beyond one year if he continued with what he described as unacceptable behaviour. The comments have added to public discussion surrounding relations among senior military figures.

The timing of the Kampala patrols has therefore raised questions about whether the deployment is connected to the recent exchanges involving senior military officers. However, there is no independently verified evidence establishing a direct link between Elwelu’s remarks and the reported security operation.

For now, the presence of armed personnel in parts of the capital has drawn public attention as Ugandans await an official explanation about the purpose and scope of the deployment.
