National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders have received the body of fallen comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, at the party’s headquarters in Kavule, Kampala, following his sudden death that has plunged Uganda’s comedy fraternity and opposition supporters into mourning.
The body was received by Acting NUP President John Baptist Nambeshe, Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi and other party officials who gathered to pay their final respects to the entertainer.
Kapere died on November 1, 2026, after reportedly collapsing and being rushed to a hospital in Buddo, Wakiso District. His sudden death has triggered an outpouring of grief among fans, fellow comedians and members of the political community who remember him for his performances and association with the opposition party.
His death marks a painful loss for the Amarula Family comedy group, where he built his reputation as an entertainer known for making audiences laugh. However, his influence extended beyond comedy stages, with his involvement in opposition politics placing him among entertainers who openly associated themselves with political activism.
Kapere was a vocal supporter of NUP, the party led by opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine. His political ambitions also went beyond public support, as he reportedly picked nomination forms in 2025 to contest for a councillor position in Makindye.
His decision to venture into elective politics demonstrated his interest in moving beyond entertainment and participating directly in local leadership.
The reception of his body at Kavule highlights the close relationship he maintained with NUP and its leaders. Party officials used the gathering to honour a man whose public identity combined comedy, political engagement and support for the opposition.
As tributes continue to emerge, Kapere’s death leaves questions about the circumstances surrounding his sudden collapse, while his supporters grapple with the loss of a performer who entertained audiences and openly expressed his political allegiance.
