- Busoga’s Royal Spectacle: One King, Two Queens, and a British Legal Twist
In a surprising turn of events, an ambitious British woman has thrown the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, into a legal tempest by claiming she’s still legally married to him. In an almost Shakespearean twist, this legal dispute has taken the international stage, pitting an African King’s right to marry multiple queens against British law.
The saga began when the Busoga Kingdom officially introduced Ms. Jovia Mutesi as the soon-to-be Inebantu (Queen) to the Kyabazinga, with their wedding scheduled for November 18. However, the tranquility of this royal love affair was shattered by a letter from a UK law firm, Anne Cuthbert Solicitors Ltd, acting on behalf of a certain Mrs. Alison Nadiope. This letter, dated October 16, claimed that she and the Kyabazinga had tied the knot in December 2016 and have two children together. The letter boldly asserted that the Kyabazinga has not divorced her and is planning to enter another marriage, potentially committing an offense of bigamy, which could result in up to six months of imprisonment under UK law.
The authenticity of the letter remains shrouded in uncertainty, as attempts to verify it were unfruitful at the time of going to press. Nevertheless, the Busoga Kingdom remains unfazed by the looming legal cloud. Busoga Kingdom spokesperson, Mr. Andrew Ntange, dismissed the letter as “negative energy” and declared that the wedding preparations are progressing smoothly. He likened Mrs. Nadiope’s legal challenge to a “contempt cut” against a whole kingdom, implying that she was punching above her weight.
Adding a touch of local charm to the unfolding drama, Ms. Justine Kasule Lumumba, the head of media and entertainment on the organizing committee of the Busoga royal wedding, emphasized that according to their culture, the Kyabazinga has the responsibility to reveal his chosen Inebantu on November 18. She humorously stated that Busoga Kingdom had no power to decline or discriminate, regardless of the shape, color, or size of the future queen-to-be. In her words, “as long as she is human,” the kingdom would accept her. To set the tone for the grand celebration, Ms. Kasule Lumumba also announced an upcoming Royal Dinner Bouquet, inviting friends of Busoga, corporate entities, humanitarian agencies, and other partners to partake in the royal festivities on October 27, to be held at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, starting at 5 pm.
As this royal love triangle unfolds, Busoga eagerly anticipates the grand wedding, leaving legal battles and international disputes in its wake. Stay tuned for more twists and turns in the Kyabazinga’s “Love Marathon.”
