Kemitaha Primary School is struggling to educate its pupils due to a lack of classrooms and toilets. The school is located in Kitojo Parish, Kakanju sub-county, Bushenyi District, and has 298 pupils and nine teachers. The school buildings are in a dilapidated state, and when it rains, the pupils are forced to share classrooms or cram into the staff room.
The boys have no toilets, and the one toilet that is available is shared by the girls and their female teachers. The men use the toilet for the church because they also use some of the church structures as one of the classrooms.
The school’s head teacher, Mr Steven Barigye, said that the situation is at “God’s mercy” and that the pupils are learning in “chaos”. He added that the school has been asking for help from the district for years, but nothing has been done.
The chairman of LC III Kakanju sub-county, Lauben Kananga, said that he is aware of the problems at Kemitaha Primary School and that he has forwarded them to the district. However, he said that the district has not taken any action.
The LCV chairman of Bushenyi District, Jaffari Basajjabalaba, said that the district is aware of the problems at Kemitaha Primary School and that they are working on a solution. However, he did not provide any further details.
The parents of the pupils at Kemitaha Primary School are frustrated and angry. They are demanding that the government take action to improve the conditions of the school. They are also calling on the district to provide the school with the resources it needs to educate its pupils.
