Uganda Airlines has officially announced the launch of its long-anticipated direct flights between Entebbe International Airport (EBB) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW), marking a significant milestone in the airline’s five-year journey. The inaugural flight is scheduled to take off on May 18, 2025, re-establishing a direct air link between Uganda and the United Kingdom for the first time in nearly a decade.
This new service becomes Uganda Airlines’ third intercontinental route and the seventeenth in its growing network. The airline already operates flights to Dubai and Mumbai outside the African continent. The addition of the London route marks Uganda Airlines’ first entry into the European market and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening international connectivity.
Flights will operate four times a week in each direction across the 6,443 km route and will be served by the carrier’s Airbus A330-800neo aircraft. Uganda Airlines owns two of these rare wide-body jets, each configured in a three-class layout with 258 seats – 20 in business class, 28 in premium economy, and 210 in economy.
Although the airline had initially set its sights on flying into London Heathrow due to its extensive connection network, it will instead operate out of London Gatwick—London’s second-largest airport.
The launch of this route is expected to greatly boost trade, tourism, education, and cultural ties between Uganda and the United Kingdom. It represents a bold step for Uganda Airlines in positioning Uganda on the global aviation map, while also expanding the airline’s fleet and international presence.
Travelers can now book tickets for this historic route through the Uganda Airlines official website.
