LIRA CITY WEST, UGANDA – – The Lira City TARA Development Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) is fully set, with a grand launch event scheduled for March 28, 2026, in Barapwo, Lira City West Division.
The SACCO’s General Manager, Mr. Abila James, during a press briefing held at the Gracious Palace Hotel on Wednesday outlined the cooperative’s mission, membership drive, and its ambitious goals to foster financial inclusion within the community.
Addressing journalists, Mr. James revealed that the SACCO has already garnered a solid foundation of 38 founding members. The organization is now setting its sights on a significant expansion, aiming to attract over 150 members by its launch date.
“In our pursuit to support the common people who are in dire need of financial assistance, our interest is the common man,” Mr. James stated, emphasizing the SACCO’s core mission to serve those often excluded from formal financial systems.
Prospective members can join by registering an affordable share, paying a membership fee of 10,000 Ugandan Shillings, and a nominal loan processing fee of 10,000 Shillings.
Mr. James extended invitation to development partners and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Lira City Leaders highlighting the importance of collaboration for the SACCO’s success and long-term impact on the community’s economic landscape.
The upcoming mega event is expected to be a full to capacity gathering that will attract thousands of people, including local leaders, community members, and development partners, are expected to grace the launch, which will be held in the former Lira Sub-county headquarters, Barapwo Ward, Lira City West , Lira City.
“We welcome everyone to come and learn about our vision of cultivating a saving culture, promoting financial literacy, and providing access to credit,” Mr. James told the media on Wednesday, urging the public to attend and understand the benefits of collective saving and borrowing.
