Veteran Singer Master Parrot Killed in Road Crash

Veteran Ugandan dancehall artist David Sifayo, popularly known as Master Parrot, has died following a tragic road accident along the Kampala Northern Bypass.

The accident occurred on Monday evening, June 1, 2026, in the Masanafu area. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police reports, the musician was allegedly struck by a speeding motorcycle while attempting to cross the busy highway.

He sustained severe injuries and reportedly died at the scene before he could be rushed to a nearby medical facility. His body was later transferred to Mulago City Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Master Parrot rose to fame in the early 2000s, becoming one of the defining voices of Uganda’s dancehall and Afro-pop scene. He gained massive popularity with his breakthrough hit “Muliro”, which dominated radio airplay, night entertainment spots, and community events across the country.

He later released other popular tracks, including “Ekikompola”, which further cemented his reputation for energetic performances, distinctive gravelly vocals, and witty lyrical style. During his peak, he was considered among the artists who shaped the modern Ugandan music industry alongside his contemporaries.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fellow musicians, fans, and members of the entertainment fraternity, many describing him as a pioneer who contributed significantly to the growth of local music in the early 2000s.

“His music brought a unique energy to the stage and inspired many upcoming artists,” one fellow musician said in tribute.

In recent years, reports indicated that Master Parrot had been struggling with personal challenges, including alcohol addiction and mental health-related issues, which affected his public appearances and music career.

By press time, official funeral arrangements had not yet been announced. Family members and close associates are expected to release burial details in the coming days as the music industry continues to mourn one of its once-prominent stars.
