Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), has been awarded the Rotary Award by the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to national service through the delivery of high-quality statistics and professional excellence.
The Chief Guest, Hon. Mike Sebalu, who also serves as District Governor for D9213 and is a member of the Rotary Club of Bukoto, praised Dr. Mukiza for demonstrating outstanding vocational service in line with Rotary’s principles of integrity, service above self, and community impact.
He highlighted the vital role of statistics in national development, noting that accurate and timely data supports policy formulation, planning, budgeting, monitoring, and effective service delivery.
“Statistics are not just numbers; they are the foundation of decision-making,” Hon. Sebalu said, emphasizing that institutions like UBOS are key to driving measurable national progress.
He further credited Dr. Mukiza’s leadership with strengthening Uganda’s statistical systems and ensuring that development planning is guided by reliable and credible data.
Hon. Sebalu also outlined the award selection process, explaining that nominees are proposed by members, reviewed by a board, and later approved by the general assembly.
He noted that Dr. Mukiza’s consistent production of quality statistics across all levels of administration made him a deserving recipient. He also pointed out that Dr. Mukiza is a member of the Rotary Club of Muyenga and a Major Donor.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Mukiza expressed appreciation to the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda for the recognition, describing the award as motivation to further strengthen Uganda’s statistical capacity and ensure UBOS continues to produce relevant and reliable data.
“I am deeply grateful to the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda for recognising my service with the Rotary Award,” he said. “This recognition reflects not only my efforts but also the shared commitment of the entire institution to excellence.”
He noted that Rotarians use statistical data to support government initiatives in communities, citing examples such as the blood bank at Mengo Hospital and the cancer unit at Nsambya Hospital, which aim to improve public welfare.
He added that UBOS has continued to enhance the country’s statistical systems to ensure consistent availability of data for planning and development.
Dr. Mukiza also encouraged UBOS staff to join Rotary clubs to expand their service beyond their professional roles and build stronger networks, noting the connection between Rotary values and statistical service.
The President of the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda, Ann Kamugisa, commended Dr. Mukiza’s leadership, saying it has strengthened institutional credibility and contributed significantly to Uganda’s development agenda.
She noted that under his leadership, UBOS has become a key pillar in national planning, supporting government institutions, the private sector, and development partners.
She added that the Rotary Award symbolizes the club’s appreciation of Dr. Mukiza’s outstanding contribution and the positive impact he has made on many Ugandans.
The award ceremony was held at Statistics House in Kampala and was attended by Rotarians from various clubs within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
