KAMPALA, Uganda – Uganda Police on Friday unveiled a new fleet of 162 vehicles and 1,040 motorcycles designated for regions and sub-counties across the country as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen security structures and enhance policing at the community level.

The handover ceremony, presided over by AIGP James Apora, the Director of Logistics and Engineering, marked a key step in addressing operational gaps and improving mobility for frontline officers, especially during the current election period when rapid response is critical.

As part of the distribution plan, each sub-county will receive two motorcycles to support day-to-day policing duties, facilitate faster coordination, and reinforce community engagement initiatives.

Police leadership stressed the importance of accountability and responsible use of the newly distributed fleet. Officers and local authorities were urged to ensure that the vehicles and motorcycles are well maintained and strictly used for official security-related work.

The acquisition and deployment of the fleet were made possible with the support of the Inspector General of Police, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the President of Uganda, whose backing enabled the force to expand its mobility and operational reach.

Authorities say the move reflects a broader commitment to improving service delivery, increasing police visibility, and ensuring safer communities during and beyond the electoral period.
