Museveni Pledges Full Compensation for ADF War Victims During Kitagwenda Rally

Thousands of residents in Kitagwenda District on Sunday gathered at Kayombo Primary School playground to welcome the NRM presidential candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as he continued his campaign trail in the Tooro region.

In a surprising moment, Mzee Serunga Buruhan, father of Common Man’s Party presidential aspirant Mubarak Munyagwa, attended the rally and openly urged the people of Kitagwenda to vote for Museveni in the 15th January 2026 elections.

Mzee Buruhan said the community needed to support Museveni so that long-pending pledges—especially those affecting war veterans and families affected by the ADF insurgency—could finally be addressed.

“Vote for Kaguta Museveni so that he completes what he started, especially supporting the war veterans and people who lost property during the ADF attacks,” Mzee Buruhan told residents.

Museveni Directs Compensation for War Victims

During his address, President Museveni responded directly to concerns raised by district leaders about residents who lost animals, properties, and school lorries during the ADF conflict.

He issued a firm directive to the Attorney General to ensure these claims are settled without delay.

“The Attorney General should compensate those whose properties were lost during the ADF insurgency—without fail,” Museveni said.

He emphasized that some school lorries and buses taken during the war fall under government war-loss obligations.

“There were school lorries which were taken because of the war. Those are compensations by the Attorney General. They must be paid,” he added.

“The school bus is my personal pledge—I will handle that myself.”

This strong commitment to compensation became the highlight of the rally, drawing applause from war-affected families who have waited for years.

New Development Pledges for Kitagwenda

Museveni also announced several development projects for the district:

A major coffee factory aiming to boost value addition.

“We are supporting a big coffee factory here in Kajara. We can also support a husking, grading, and sorting plant here,” he said.

Creating a second constituency out of Kitagwenda.

“I support the creation of the second constituency,” Museveni told the crowd.

Tarmacking the Kamwenge–Kitagwenda road to improve transport and trade.

Extending electricity to sub-counties that are still off the national grid.

Campaign Trail Continues

The NRM campaign team announced that Museveni will resume rallies on Monday with scheduled meetings in Kamwenge and Kyegegwa districts.
