Rukiga District, Uganda — Rukiga County MP aspirant Patrick Kiconco Katabazi has criticized fellow candidates for promoting identity-based politics, urging voters to instead focus on leadership that serves the entire district.

Speaking at the NRM joint campaigns held at Rushebeya Playground in Rwamucucu Sub-county on 9th July 2025, Katabazi responded to remarks made by rival candidates who appealed to voters based on local ties.

Dr. Kampikaho Alexander, one of the aspirants, told supporters:

“If I’m elected MP, the people of Kitojo Parish in Rwamucucu Sub-county will benefit greatly, as I’ll be coming to drink and eat with them.”

He further emphasized that only two candidates — himself and Musinguzi Bruno Kabaja — hail from Kitojo Parish, implying that voters should choose one of them.

Kabaja echoed similar views, highlighting his personal connection to Rwamucucu Sub-county.

In response, Katabazi expressed disappointment in what he described as divisive rhetoric.

“Rukiga needs a leader who represents the entire district — not just one parish or sub-county,” he said.
He emphasized the need to prioritize critical issues such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, rather than tribal or parish affiliations.

Katabazi also highlighted his past achievements and promised to “restore Rukiga’s lost glory” if elected to Parliament.
