LIRA, Uganda – The Electoral Commission has duly nominated Senior Presidential Advisor, Sam Engola, to contest for the Member of Parliament seat representing Erute South constituency in Lira district.
The nomination, which took place on Wednesday, October 22, paves the way for Engola to officially campaign on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket as he seeks to return to the parliamentary seat.
Speaking to supporters and journalists after the nomination process at the Lira District Electoral Commission offices, a jubilant Engola expressed gratitude to his supporters and outlined his commitment to the constituency.
“My nomination today is a reaffirmation of our collective mission to bring transformative development to Erute South,” Engola stated. “I am humbled by the trust and ready to work tirelessly for every citizen in this constituency.”
Central to his campaign platform are pledges for improved service delivery, effective lobbying for national projects, and a dedicated fight against poverty. Engola emphasized his experience as a Senior Presidential Advisor and former MP, positioning it as a vital asset for attracting development to the area.
“My focus will be on unity and inclusive leadership. I will be a voice for all, regardless of political affiliation, ensuring that our needs for better roads, healthcare, and education are prioritized both in the district and at the national level,” he added.
The nomination sets the stage for a competitive race in the constituency. Engola will be aiming to reclaim the seat, a contest that is being closely watched by political analysts in the Lango sub-region.
His supporters, who turned up in significant numbers for the nomination, expressed confidence in his victory.
“Sam Engola has the experience and the connection to deliver for our people,” said one supporter, Ms. Grace Acen. “We have seen his work before, and we believe he is the right person to lead us again.”
With the nomination process complete, the campaign season officially begins, allowing candidates to directly engage with the electorate. The people of Erute South can now expect a period of intensified political activity as Engola and other nominees present their manifestos and vie for votes.
