The Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and aspiring Member of Parliament for Nakawa East, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, appeared before the Nakawa Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning. He was charged with inciting NUP supporters to commit acts of violence against security personnel.
The charges stem from an incident allegedly committed on September 4, 2025, in Kampala, where Mufumbiro is accused of urging supporters to target security forces. Prosecutors filed one count of incitement, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Mufumbiro, who is contesting on the NUP ticket, was arrested last month and has been on remand at Luzira Prison since then. His detention now appears set to continue, even as nominations for the Nakawa East MP seat are underway.
The case was presided over by Grade One Magistrate Frank Nahamya, who remanded Mufumbiro until November 6, 2025, pending the completion of police investigations.
In addition to the incitement charges, Mufumbiro is facing separate charges related to alleged military-style training. He is expected to appear later today at Kawempe Magistrates Court alongside nine other suspects in connection with that case.
