The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), in a joint operation with other security agencies, conducted a search at Bep auto garage in Entebbe, where they discovered 40 metallic boxes. Some of these boxes contained suspected counterfeit US dollars amounting to approximately $2 million.
According to Kennedy Odongkara, the Communication Officer of SH-ACU, they received information about a suspicious consignment held at Entebbe International Airport between May and October 2024.
“Since then, SH-ACU, along with other intelligence agencies, has been closely monitoring the consignment. We were alerted when the consignment was smuggled out of the airport to a specific garage in Entebbe,” he explained.
Accompanied by representatives from civil aviation security, Entebbe police, local leaders, and neighbors, SH-ACU searched the garage. Some of the 40 metallic boxes were found filled with soil to increase their weight, likely an attempt to deceive potential targets.
Other recovered items included well-packaged boxes that appeared to contain goods in transit but instead held useless items, such as empty beer and soda crates.
Three suspects have been arrested, and efforts to apprehend others are ongoing.
The head of SH-ACU, Brig Gen Henry Isoke, reiterated the unit’s commitment to working with other agencies to crack down on criminals who target innocent citizens and foreigners through fraudulent and fake transactions.
