32-Year-Old Man Killed by Mob in Lira City, Suspected of Theft

The police spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region has issued a statement concerning the death of a suspected thief who was murdered by a mob in Lira City West Division, in Lira City, under unclear circumstances. SP Patrick Jimmy Okema communicated with members of the media on Monday evening that the territorial command at Lira City West Division is investigating the suspected murder of Ojuka Paul, aged 32, that occurred in Ober Entebbe cell, Ojwina Ward, Lira City West Division in Lira City by a suspected group of people.

According to Okema, it’s alleged that on the 11th of September 2023, at around 07:30 hours, a team of police officers led by Detective OC CID of Lira City West Division Station received information that there was someone lying naked in the Ober Entebbe cell, Ojwina Ward, Lira City West Division.

Upon reaching the scene of the crime, the person was found lying along the Lira-Kamdini highway with bloodstains on the head, bruises all over the body, and stones and sticks near the deceased’s body. SP Okema added that the deceased was suspected to be a thief, but no particular items that he allegedly stole were found as exhibits.

A murder case has been registered at Lira City West Division in Lira City Police Headquarters. The body has been conveyed to Lira Regional Hospital’s mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Exhibits, including two concrete stones and pieces of sticks recovered at the scene, were collected by the police.

The deceased was a resident of Alela cell, Ayer Sub-County in Kole District. “No arrests have been made yet. However, we appeal to anyone who values life to quietly share any information with the police that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators so that they can face the law,” said Okema.
