In Nairobi, like in many cities worldwide, there are prominent buildings that are easily recognized. Just as New York City boasts landmarks like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and Central Park, London has its Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, and Westminster Abbey, to name a few.

In Nairobi, several iconic structures decorate the city’s skyline, including the Times Tower, Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Parliament Buildings, and the Nairobi National Museum. Among these, the Ambassadeur Hotel stands as a significant, though perhaps less celebrated, fixture.

A Storied Past: Ambassadeur Hotel’s Journey

The Ambassadeur Hotel, located near Kencom Buildings and adjacent to the Kenya Bus Service (KBS) bus stop, has been part of Nairobi’s landscape since 1961. It was established by former Kirinyaga Central MP John Ngata Kariuki and Gurcharan Singh Vohra. Initially, it served as a preferred meeting and conference venue for politicians from the larger East African region.

In 2004, the hotel changed hands and was acquired by businessman Samuel Maina. Although originally designed as a luxury hotel, it has lost some of its former prestige, mainly due to the bustling bus stop that has evolved just below it, turning the area into a hub of activity.

Despite the challenges it faces, the hotel still draws visitors. It features 94 well-appointed rooms, multiple conference facilities accommodating 10 to 150 people, and ample parking for over 30 vehicles.

The hotel caters to a diverse clientele by offering a wide range of services. Its central location is convenient for travelers who prefer staying in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) before embarking on their journeys.

It also serves as a convenient spot for those who find themselves in town after long journeys or seek an affordable night’s stay in the city center.

Amenities and Services

Guests staying at Ambassadeur Hotel enjoy complimentary benefits such as a free breakfast buffet, as well as dry cleaning and laundry services. The hotel also offers a variety of African cuisines to its guests.

The guest rooms come in different classes to suit various budget preferences, including deluxe rooms for singles and triple rooms equipped with private balconies and kitchenettes. Each room features bathrooms with separate showers, hot water facilities, and complimentary toiletries.

Inside the rooms, guests can find a personal computer, a sofa set, a writing table, and ironing facilities.

The Ambassadeur Hotel maintains its 3-star amenities, making it a preferable choice for those seeking a relaxing stay in the heart of Nairobi.
