Maria Msando, the mother of Chris Msando, the former ICT manager of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has passed away. Siaya Governor James Orengo conveyed his condolences to the family following her demise.

Maria Msando, known for her warm personality and caring nature, had developed enduring relationships with many. Orengo expressed his heartfelt condolences and wished for her soul to rest in eternal peace.

This news is a significant blow to the Msando family, who had previously lost Chris Msando, the former IEBC ICT manager, just days before the 2017 elections. Maria Msando’s eldest son, Peter Msando, spoke to the press and disclosed that her death was due to multiple organ failure. She had been hospitalized due to high blood pressure and sugar-related health issues.

According to Peter Msando, his mother fell into a coma on Thursday and was promptly admitted to Avenue Hospital in Kisumu at approximately 1:00 pm. Despite being placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), she passed away on Friday morning.

It is worth noting that her health had deteriorated after the tragic death of her son, Chris Msando, who was brutally murdered just a week before the elections. Chris Msando was responsible for overseeing the IEBC’s computerized voting system and was found deceased in a thicket in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

Tragically, his lifeless body was discovered alongside the body of 21-year-old Carol Ngumbu. During the investigation, Maria Msando had passionately demanded justice for her son, urging the government to apprehend those responsible for his murder. She had expressed her fervent desire to learn the truth about her son’s untimely death and the reasons behind it.

The passing of Maria Msando represents another sorrowful chapter in the Msando family’s difficult journey following the loss of Chris Msando in 2017.
