Kwagala died on Monday, November 2, 2026, following several months of illness that had reportedly left her bedridden.

Iganga District NRM Chairperson Haji Abubaker Walubi confirmed her death, saying the party would consult its national secretariat on how to support the bereaved family with burial arrangements.

Walubi also disclosed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had contributed towards Kwagala’s medical bills after local party leaders informed him about her condition.

“We informed President Yoweri Museveni during a thanksgiving ceremony of the Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, and he started contributing towards her medical bills,” Walubi told New Vision.

Kwagala served as Iganga District Woman MP from 2011 to 2016 after winning the parliamentary seat on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

During the 2011 general elections, she defeated Beatrice Magoola, the mother of singer Racheal Magoola, popularly known for the hit song Obangaina.

Although she left Parliament in 2016 after losing subsequent electoral contests, Kwagala remained involved in community development initiatives across Iganga District.

She was particularly associated with calls for the construction of a modern market in Iganga Municipality and the upgrading of Iganga General Hospital to referral hospital status.

Local leaders also credited her with lobbying for the construction of boreholes to improve access to clean water and supporting disadvantaged children through bursary programmes.

Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda has also paid tribute to the former legislator, expressing condolences to her family, friends and the people of Iganga.

“Her death is a great loss to her family, the people of Iganga District, and all those who knew and worked with her,” Babalanda said.

Further details regarding her burial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family and party leadership.
