Snake Man’ Videos Go Viral in Nigeria, Triggering Panic and Humor

Akure, Nigeria — Viral videos shared online by a Nigerian conservationist popularly known as the “Snake Man” have triggered a wave of reactions ranging from fear to humor across social media.

The clips were posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Arojinle, a biochemistry master’s degree holder and wildlife conservation advocate. In one of the videos, a man is seen handling several large pythons laid out on a concrete slab, while another clip shows a snake coiled around a ceiling fan inside a house.

The dramatic footage quickly gained traction online, attracting nearly 1,000 likes and hundreds of comments within a short time. Social media users reacted with a mixture of shock, curiosity, and humor.

Some viewers expressed panic at the sight of the reptiles, joking that they would immediately abandon their homes if they encountered such a situation. Others responded with humor, making jokes about snake pepper soup, with some claiming it “tastes like chicken.”

Despite the humor, the videos also highlight the reality of frequent snake encounters in Nigeria, particularly in warmer regions where snakes thrive. Wildlife experts say snakes often appear around homes because they are attracted by rodents and other small animals.

Arojinle, who frequently shares wildlife-related content, uses his platform to educate the public about snakes and their ecological importance. According to conservationists, snakes play a crucial role in controlling rodent populations that can damage crops and spread diseases.

However, snakes also pose a real danger in some areas. Snakebites remain a serious public health concern in parts of Nigeria, with several fatalities recorded each year.

The viral posts have therefore sparked both serious discussions about wildlife conservation and light-hearted debates about local food traditions, reflecting the complex relationship many communities have with snakes in the region.
