Namulonge’s Timothy Collins Lwanga Wins Amateurs’ Event in Golf Tournament

In the midst of fierce competition among professional golfers at the Johnnie Walker Uganda Professionals Open, the amateurs engaged in their own battle for prestigious prizes.




The victor in the amateurs’ division was none other than Timothy Collins Lwanga, hailing from Namulonge. Lwanga secured his victory in the men’s Group A by prevailing over Walter Tukahiirwa through a count-back system, as both players scored 72 nett on Saturday at the Kitante golf course.




Taking the second spot in the same group was David Tarzan Lubega, who scored 73. This exciting event saw the participation of over 100 golfers, showcasing the passion and talent within the amateur golfing community.




In Group B, Paul Baite made a triumphant return after a prolonged hiatus from the podium. Baite emerged as the winner in this category, with Phillip Walera and Mark Namanya securing the second and third positions, respectively.

The day’s best net score was achieved by Philemon Akatuhurira, who played off a handicap of 19. His impressive score of 67 secured him the top spot, narrowly surpassing Benson Katema, who marked his return to the game with a score of 68 nett.

Reflecting on his comeback, Katema expressed his determination for future success, stating, “I had taken a break but I’m now back and hope to win many more accolades in the near future.”
