AMOLATAR, Uganda – The Amolatar Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Obonyo Magwar, has praised the government of Uganda for its flagship poverty alleviation initiatives, urging beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely to break free from the cycle of poverty.

Mr. Magwar made the remarks last Friday while flagging off the Amolatar Women’s Mill Group, who were set to represent the district at the national International Women’s Day celebrations at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

The RDC specifically highlighted programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Programme, stating they are already having a positive impact on the lives of ordinary Ugandans.

“These programmes, especially PDM, are benefiting Ugandans. If the funds are used wisely by the people, they have the power to transform lives and move us from a hand-to-mouth economy,” Mr. Magwar said.

However, he issued a strong caution against the mismanagement of these funds, which are intended for income-generating activities. He warned beneficiaries against diverting the money for unproductive purposes.

“I caution the people against the misuse of PDM funds. Do not take this money and spend it on alcohol. To the men, I say, this money is not for marrying more wives. It is for production and for uplifting your families from poverty,” he emphasized.

Mr. Magwar also took the opportunity to commend the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the prevailing peace and stability in all regions of the country. He described the President as a true leader who genuinely cares for the well-being of all Ugandans.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Amolatar Women’s Mill Group, Ms. Judith Acana, expressed her profound gratitude to the President for the donation of a maize mill to the women of Amolatar. She testified that the machine is already proving to be a transformative tool for the women in the district.

“The mill is changing our lives. We are so thankful to the President for this support,” Ms. Acana said.

Looking ahead, she appealed to the Office of the President to continue its support by ensuring routine maintenance and regular oversight visits to the mill to guarantee its smooth and sustainable operation for years to come.
