Amudat locals demand blacklist of road contractor over shoddy road works

Joseph Lokut, Amudat District – The general public in Amudat District in the Karamoja sub-region is angered by the poor workmanship of a Central Government-funded project in Amudat.

The Central Government, early this year, contracted one of the companies, yet to be known, to rehabilitate the community road connecting Amudat to Karita, but the contractor has displayed poor workmanship on the road.

The media fraternity visited the road and discovered poor installation of culverts, and other parts of the road have already been washed away.

Speaking to the media, some of the district officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the engineers of the road are too arrogant and don’t accept to be supervised by the district.

According to the source, the district officials were preparing a letter seeking advice from the Ministry of Works.

John Kiprop, a resident, said urgent attention was needed, adding that the road has turned into a death trap for motorists.

“The way the contractor has installed the culverts, it’s just a death trap,” he said.

Musa Ecweru, the State Minister for Works, when contacted, said he would visit Amudat and warned that any shoddy work will lead to contract termination.
