The Assistant Resident City Commissioner (ARCC) of Lira City, Bonny Otucu, has issued a stern warning to SACCO leaders in Boke Ward regarding the extortion of PDM funds. He urged them to adhere to the established guidelines.
On Friday, August 23, 2024, ARCC Otucu attended a community meeting convened by the Town Agent of Boke Ward to address various issues, including PDM implementation. The meeting focused on security concerns, road infrastructure, property tax, and the PDM.
The PDM dominated the discussion, highlighting its significance to the community. The meeting resolved to hold a separate security meeting to address the rampant theft and marijuana use in the area. The Town Agent also briefed the community on his roles and responsibilities, including property tax and building plans.
The meeting addressed concerns related to PDM implementation and SACCO leaders shared the challenges they face. Community members emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability from SACCO leaders and expressed disappointment in the previous Town Agent’s handling of the PDM.
Commissioner Otucu warned SACCO leaders against extorting money from PDM beneficiaries, threatening legal action against those found guilty. He ordered the publication of the list of PDM beneficiaries in each village to ensure transparency.
ARCC Otucu’s active involvement in the PDM demonstrates his commitment to the community’s development. His leadership and guidance will be instrumental in addressing the challenges raised during the meeting.
Recently, the Lira City Commercial Officer, Okello Odyek, was arrested by police in conjunction with the RCC’s office for allegedly extorting money from the community.
