In a consultative rally held on Friday at Lango Koran ground, Senior Quarter “B”, Lira City East Division, Retired Colonel Dr. Besigye Kizza, a 68-year-old opposition politician, addressed the gathering, expressing his intention to organize groups of ten individuals with influence. “I want us to change Uganda this year, before 2026,” said Besigye.
Dr. Kizza Besigye emphasized that their visit to Lira aimed to address the crisis facing the country, particularly focusing on poverty, which affects the majority of Ugandans.
According to Besigye, in 2016, he declared victory in the presidential election through a loudspeaker announcement. “Make sure everybody is ready to fight for this country. Ladies and gentlemen, we want people in FDC to get organized,” urged Dr. Kizza.
Besigye stressed the importance of forming teams of ten well-organized individuals, each equipped with a phone to facilitate communication and instigate change in the country. “We are building an army of unarmed forces to combat the armed forces,” he declared.
He highlighted the plight of young people in the ghetto who lack proper housing and the healthcare crisis, citing a scarcity of cancer treatment facilities, with only Mulago Hospital partially stocked with cancer medicine.

Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, national chairperson of FDC, addressed the gathering, outlining resolutions made in Kampala, including focusing on the legal aspects of the party, considering reconciliation with the Najamkumbi faction, or potentially forming a new party.
Proscovia Salami Musumba, the FDC vice-chairperson of the Eastern region, reflected on the party’s 20-year existence, likening its current state to a vehicle that has been in an accident. She emphasized the importance of understanding the party’s history to navigate its future.
Imat Jus-pinina, an FDC historical figure from Corner Kamdini, Teso Bar A, Lira City West Division, praised Besigye for his visit to Lira.
Otimama Gongson read out the FDC resolutions from the nine districts and one city of the Lango sub-region before FDC members and Liza Besigye.
Besigye was accompanied by prominent FDC members from Mbarara, the Western region, including Mr. Omenya Godfrey from Paimol, Agago district, among several other dignitaries.
Less than 2000 people attended Besigye’s rally in Lira City.
