Bududa District, Uganda – The spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Mr. Steven Masiga, has told this publication that as a cultural institution, they are very satisfied with the entire nomination exercise from local government and presidential aspirants to the current parliamentary nominations.
“As a cultural institution, we have constantly mobilized our people to participate in the governance of their communities. I am happy to report that so far, the exercise has been well handled, with no incidents reported to us or noticed by us,” Masiga said.
He added that all cultural institutions are mandated to mobilize their communities to participate in government programs, including electoral programs. “As the Bugisu Cultural Institution, we have been at the forefront of mobilizing our people to participate in the nomination programs, which explains the massive turnout,” Masiga said.
As politicians embark on campaigns, he appealed to them to campaign with decorum and use friendly language in line with our customs and norms as the Bamasaaba people. “Any politician found using unfriendly or obscene language will not be entertained by the cultural institution,” Masiga warned.
He emphasized, “This is our land, and anybody campaigning must market his or her manifesto with decency. Obscene language by politicians will not be accepted by the cultural institution.”
