From Academy to Hospital: Anita Among Confirms School Profits as Sole Funding Source

During his visit to Bukedea district, President Yoweri Museveni lauded Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, for her innovative solutions to community challenges. Speaking at the opening ceremony of Bukedea Teaching Hospital and Bukedea Institute of Health Sciences, both spearheaded by Among, President Museveni commended her proactive approach in addressing the needs of her constituents.

Reflecting on his earlier interactions with Speaker Among, President Museveni recalled their discussions regarding her ambitious plans to uplift her community. Despite being in opposition at the time, Among demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the lives of her people. Museveni emphasized the importance of financial prudence, advising her against accumulating debts and corruption.




Intrigued by the remarkable progress witnessed during his visit, President Museveni inquired about the source of funding for these initiatives. To his surprise, Speaker Among revealed that she utilized proceeds from Bukedea Comprehensive Academy, a school she established with assistance from the President, to finance the hospital’s construction. This innovative approach showcased Among’s resourcefulness and dedication to sustainable development.




President Museveni commended Speaker Among’s strategic planning and utilization of resources to transform the landscape of Bukedea. By investing in critical infrastructure and healthcare services, Among not only improved access to quality healthcare but also generated employment opportunities for local residents. Her visionary leadership exemplified the potential for grassroots development driven by committed leaders.




Acknowledging the significance of Among’s contributions, Denis Obua, the Government Chief Whip, emphasized the importance of investing in local communities to stimulate economic growth. He praised Speaker Among for her dedication to enhancing services within her constituency and encouraged others to follow suit in supporting Uganda’s economy.

Similarly, Peter Ogwang, the sports state minister, highlighted the positive impact of the hospital on healthcare delivery in the region. He emphasized that the facility would not only elevate the quality of medical services but also stimulate trade and development in Bukedea and its surrounding areas.

Bukedea Comprehensive Academy, as stated on its official website, is situated along the Mbale-Kumi Highway, precisely 33 kilometers away from Bukedea Town Council. The academy boasts well-established and furnished buildings, providing a conducive environment that caters to both learning and the social welfare of its students.




The ongoing construction at the school is aimed at expanding its infrastructure. A new classroom flat, currently under construction, is projected to accommodate more than 500 students. According to the School Resident Director, whose identity remains undisclosed, this development marks a significant milestone for Bukedea Comprehensive School.

The school writes on their website that they perceive technology as a universal language, essential for students to engage with and influence the global community positively. The school prides itself on the achievements of its students, showcasing their success through their ventures into global destinations.

Students at Bukedea Comprehensive Academy benefit immensely from the exceptional facilities and the high-quality education delivered by a dedicated team of educators. Many graduates from the academy proceed to attend prestigious universities worldwide, supported by a team of specialized educators, according the website portal of the school.




Although specific fees information is not available on the website, it is noteworthy that Bukedea Comprehensive Academy was recognized as the best-performing school in Bukedea District based on the 2003 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results. The school has also attracted visits from notable dignitaries, including the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
